Western Press During the Civil

Scholars discussed the role of the western press during the Civil War. They talked about the divide between pro-Union and secessionist papers west of the Mississippi River as well as the delay for communities receiving news via the postal service instead of by telegraph. This session was part an annual symposium on the 19th century press and the Civil War hosted by the University of Tennessee at Chattanooga. The school provided this video.
